BP has all that oil floating off the Gulf of Mexico, why is it going to waste? Isn’t there a way for oil companies to use this wasted oil? Couldn’t the oil be separated from water?

Also, in, say, a Very Large Crude Carrier, approximately how much will the vessel weigh with and without fuel and how much will the cargo weigh? I’m more interested in the approximate percentages of the total rather than absolute weights, unless you can supply typical weights for each.
