Are petroleum plants harmful for the environment?

do they emit hazardous chemicals/gases? should neighborhoods be built next to them? what other problems do they cause?

You wouldn’t want it in your neighborhood. They are smelly, obnoxious and they sometimes explode. They do negatively impact air quality at least locally. They could potentially leak nasty chemicals into the water and soil though they are highly regulated in the US. They aren’t a major concern except that there aren’t enough of them. Nobody really wants to have them in their backyard.

IT IS GOOD TO SET THEM UP IN REMOTE AREA OR SOME DISTANCE FROM LOCAL RESIDENTS
