Alternates will be less expensive in the long run in all cases since they are renewable. Oil supply is definite, but solar and wind are not and will never be exhausted. Alternates are costly now due to them being less available and adapted to our current lifestyles.

Its about felt pain, not actual damage. Again, we are like frogs in heated water – until our feet are burned we dont jump out.

The price per barrel is not going to drive people significantly away from oil, the price per gallon of gasonline, and price for heating oil, is going to drive people away from oil.

I’ve heard several estimates around $5 per gallon.

Oil probably began to be more expensive than solar, wind and bio fuel alternatives at 50 or 60 US dollars a barrel. The problem with the alternatives is that they still need a lot of capital investment for development and building production facilities. There is interest in investing and quite a bit of action, but many potential investors are not confident that the current oil price will be sustained long enough for the alternatives to pay off. There are a lot of unanswered questions about which are the best alternatives and which are the best ways to implement alternatives. With so many variables, there is not an exact price at which oil is more expensive. There is a rather wide price transition range.
