Do houses in tight neighborhoods share land?

Or do all neighborhoods share land? Does every, single acre have an owner that people living on the land have to pay or does the city usually own it? If you think I’m stupid because I seem clueless, it’s because I’ve just turned fourteen and basically I am suppose to be clueless about this stuff right? :O

Most houses sit on land that has been defined by surveyors to a precise amount. The owner of the house also owns the land. There are exceptions.

    1. Mobile homes. Many are in trailer parks where you may own the trailer, but rent the land.
    2. There are some neighborhoods where the land is owned by all of the homeowners. They each have what is called an undivided interest in the entire neighborhood. One example is Edgewater Colony in Edgewater, NJ. http://www.edgewatercolony.com/ (Geraldo Rivera lives there.)
    3. Even more rare are the homes that are on leased land. Similar to trailer parks, but the houses are not mobile. There are a couple of apartment buildings in New York City like this.
    4. Condominiums. If you live on the 20th floor of a building, obviously, your home isn’t on land and the person on the ground floor isn’t the owner just because he or she has the unit that is in contact with the ground.

You’re not supposed to be clueless about anything. There are many things which people don’t expect you to know, but if you do, you will seem to be very smart.

    I hope this helps.

Not really sure what you are asking, but each house is on a peice of land and the house and land are owned byt one and the same.

There are also easments which are owned by the city or utility districts, but actual dwellings are not placed on them. This would be like the alley behind houses, or the strip of land along a drainage ditch.
