Do petroleum engineers work mostly in an office environment or out on the field?

I heard that some petroleum engineers work in offices, I would like to become a petroleum engineer but I would hate to work in an office environment i’d rather be on the field where all the action is.

They mostly work in an office with trips to the field from time to time. For a petroleum engineer the "action" is deep underground and you don’t need to be at the well head to get the information you need to do your job. It can all be sent electronically to an office.

both, depending on the section of petroleum. engineering you are into. some are more into the engineering aspect so they go into the field and other are just in the office
