Do you have the right to protect your vehicle from being towed?

Tow truck companies piss me off. I was wondering that since they are not a legal entity, they have no right to tow my vehicle unless they are law enforcement themselves.

Do I have the right to take my car back? Whether it is getting in the car and driving away or using force to get it back? I think there is a conflict in some laws that allow people to protect their property and then saying tow truck companies can take anything if the land owner requests it.

If the tow truck company is incorporated it is a legal entity. If the land owner requests it that means you are on their property, presumably without permission. That doesn’t give you much of a legal leg to stand on. If this is a repossession and the vehicle is NOT on property you own or specifically rent (the parking lot of your apartment doesn’t count) then they have a legal right to claim the vehicle. If it is on property you own or rent, the driveway of a rented house for example, they have to get a court order. If they hook up to it without such an order, and make it on to public property, i.e. the road, they’re in the clear.
