Does Obama's plan to drill for oil prove that he's turning the USA into the new USSR?

Obama clears way for oil drilling off US coasts
"Reversing a ban on oil drilling off most U.S. shores, President Barack Obama on Wednesday announced an expansive new policy that could put oil and natural gas platforms in waters along the southern Atlantic coastline, the eastern Gulf of Mexico and part of Alaska."

The USSR was a major oil producer. Russia is still the second largest oil producer in the world.

Is Obama trying to emulate the former Soviet Union by increasing U.S. oil production?
LOL! I was just getting a head start on people who say "this proves he isn’t a socialist."

I’ll believe it wasn’t a campaign tactic when I see the first new oil rig off the coast.

Damn, possibly the first thing that he has done for this country, not against it. Energy independance ! We sit on more oil than the middle east has, and the green peacers won’t let us get it. What is wrong with that? Oil drilling in the water is safe, they have one way valves on the things, we get enough warning on shitty weather. Stop, drain the pipes. No harm, no foul.

So, if we use your logic here, then the US is trying to be the new Japan by producing cars.
Having oil resources has nothing to do with your political persuasion…and unless Pres. Obama can travel millions of years back in the past, he really has no influence on whether we find oil or not.
