Petroleum engineering and chemical engineering are essentially the same as many chemical engineers are petroleum engineers. If you are looking for the quickest time possible I would select a chemical engineering program that allowed you to specialize in petroleum engineering without having to pick up both degrees. If you are able to find a chemical engineering program that has a chance to specialize in petroleum engineering then the length will be 4 years full-time. However if you are double majoring then I would plan on at least 5 years full-time.

depending on where you go and if you do them at the same time it could take as little as four years and as many as 8 years. If you double major in those and no minors and just fill the requirements of those majors with little else then you could finish in four years. If you do them separately and fulfill requirements for minors and what not it could take upwards of 8 years or you could fall somewhere in the middle.

You could probably do it in 4-5 years. They are probably in the same department, so many of the classes would be the same.
