How much gasoline can be made from 1 barrell of crude oil?

Or how much crude does it take to make 1 gallon of gasoline?
Like if the entire barrell was used for gasoline, and nothing else.

  1. Arbitrage Says:

1 barrel makes about 19.5 gallons of gas.

The person below me: Your math doesn’t work because you can get a lot more than gas out of the crude oil, and the other products sell for non-zero values.

I think it must be quite a bit more than 20 gallons. At $60 a barrel and 20 gallons per barrel, that would yield a price of $3 a gallon BEFORE shipping, refining, shipping and retailing costs (not to mention taxes). At $60 a barrel gas has been selling for around $2.30 a gallon. So the numbers of 20 gallons of gas per barrel do don’t work.
