Things are only hard if you think they are
If you really want to do it, then do it. You’ll be able to overcome any obstacles yourself

By the way, you still have plenty of time to choose your profession ease up a bit

I have spend 35 years working with engineers of all disciplines. I personally think the other disciplines offer much more variety and opportunity than petroleum engineering. Chemical engineering that is the closest discipline to petroleum has a much wider application and pays just about as well.

You don’t have to be a genius to be a good engineer. Competence in math and science are the main things along with an ability to solve problems and puzzles.
