is my land owner violating my tenant rights?

i left my rent check in the mailbox for the owner (at her request) she came to the door and after having a bad day and laying my 12 month old down for a nap i didn’t come to the door. she then began peeking through the windows and ‘inspecting ‘things. she knew i was home and continuously knocked on the door and called me. she was there at least a half hour when my dad happened to show up and she then showed him and his girlfriend her complaints (apparently theres a crack in a window) she left and then parked down the block, then at the neighbors, just watching my house. she was there well over and hour…..what should i do about this?

well the only thing i can see u might have done wrong was not answer the door. how long does it take to lay a child down? not long. and its ur obligation to answer when she knocks because shes ur landlord. and its her house ur living in. but with that said i think she was being a litte harrasive about it and almost stalkerish. sounds like u have probs with her and if u get the chance. move. because ive lived in alot of rent houses and once u get on a landlords bad side they can make ur life a living hell. and if she wants she can make u move anyways. and as far as the cracked window. thats ur obligation too. i dont blame her for that. but she dont have to be the way shes being, i would call and talk to her about it like an adult people appreciate that. i dont think theres much u can do about it otherwise. just answer if she ever knocks, lol.

Get some curtains for one thing. A landlord has to give you notice before they can enter the premises. I believe it is 24 hours notice. Contact your local landlord/tenant branch.

AS AN EX……LANDLORD…..YOUR PRSENT LANDLORD IS A NUT !!! YOU CAN CALL THE COPS FOR HER SNOOPING IN YOUR WINDOWS. SHE IS NOT ALLOWED TO EVEN LOOK OVER YOUR FENCE, UNLESS SHE THINKS YOU HAVE ABANDONED THE PREMISES…. BUT SHE JUST CANT MAKE THAT EXCUSE FOR THE HECK OF IT !!! I PAY BILLS BY E PAY THROUGH MY BANK, IN THAT MANNER YOUR PAYMENT AUTOMATICALLY CAN BE MAILED TO MS. LOONEY TUNES….. TAKE CELL PHONE PICS AND CALL THE COPS. A PICTURE IS WORTH 1000 WORDS.

I have come to the conclusion that some landlords are just nuts. I had one that used to come into our apartment and go through our things when we were at work!

Unless this pattern of parking down the block watching your house continues, I don’t know what you can do. Call her and explain to her you were putting your baby down for a nap and ask her if there is a problem. If there is a broken window and it is your fault, get it fixed and let her know you did that. Take the high road and act in a courteous manner.

If she continues to spy on you, it might be time for a move. This borders on stalking and I think that you could probably get out of your lease if it continues. Keep records of her behavior.

When we went through the thing with that landlord we had, I went to her and told her than I knew what she was doing. She denied it, of course. So I just told her that I knew it was happening and that I had witnesses and if it continued, we would sue her. It stopped. This was not normal "checking on things" – she went through our personal papers and financial records.
