Obama to allow oil and gas drilling along the East Coast should we be excited?

Do you know the history of oil exploration on the east coast?

http://www.gomr.mms.gov/homepg/offshore/atlocs/atlocs.html

Actually, it looks like 51 exploratory wells were drilled in the 70s and 80s five found natural gas and/or condensate. (What the heck is condensate). Anyway they were abandon as not commercially viable?

Do you know where the lowest projected reserves in the country are?
Could that be along the entire, that’s the entire east coast that has the lowest estimate, not just off VA to GA with the lowest estimated reserves?

2006 assessment is in the link below

Another question where are the largest recoverable supplies and where is Obama not opening up exploration?
Could it be Alaska and the West Coast?

He is also opening up exploration of the west coast of Florida, but what has to happen for that to actually happen?
Would Nancy Pelosi and the Socialist Democrats in congress have to let the moratorium on drilling there expire? and do you think they will do that?

So should we get all excited and praise his bold move or is this just a farce? Planned to deliver very little of what is available and still allow Obama to claim he has embraced energy independence?
Please do not bring up The gulf coast becuase exploration is already allowed their. Thanks

Naw. While Obama is playing the drilling card with one hand, the other hand is getting ready to announce new limits on emissions – which stems from the EPA and more loss of our freedoms. Remember, Obama has a heart as cold as a stone and full of deception.

    Yes.

I don’t know if "excited" is the right word.

He appears to be trying to sure up his Republican leaning credentials before he asks Republicans to help him push this immigration "reform". (which includes a biometric national id card)

"See I can reach across the aisle, now help me with immigration reform"

I am afraid of what we are giving up to get to drill, which in fact will takes time to get it going anyway.

I cannot be excited when I know there are bribes, corruption and back door deals being made to be allowed to drill!

The earlier tests well were done when feasibility only allowed for much more shallow drilling. Much has changed in 45 years in terms of recovery technology and exploration.

The sedimentary environment off VA (from the discharge of numerous river systems) alon with antiform structures in the subsurface make excellent candidates for both source rock and trap rocks.

I think folks will be moderately impressed witht the likelihood of now-viable reserves. I think the possibility for economical reserves is fairly robust.

However, I would rather the US focus on efficiency and conservation (which has immediate gains) and alternatives to oil for our energy needs. I think relying on hydrocarbons and exploiting every drop of our reserves is very short-sighted.

    it excited this lib
sounds like certain job security for Sen. Jim Webb and a slow blue-ing of the east states, and it also sounds like bone for the repubs to shut up so that Obama can move on to his next big plan.
    national cannabis legalization? ;;))

  8. Schmuck Says:

Don’t get too excited. It’s probably just a fake out to take people’s attention away from some evil he has in mind.

I don’t trust Obama. Not one damn bit.

I think your very last paragraph sums it up rather nicely. The most show with no viable results. Sounds like a politicians trick to me. Good luck to you
