Should the student who stopped oil drilling on thousands of acres of federal park land in Utah do jail time?
The Bush administration has been in a big hurry to auction oil and gas leases on hundreds of thousands of acres of federal land before Obama takes over. A student in Utah made bids on some of these leases, never intending to pay, so that these leases would not be validly sold at this time and so that the whole issue of whether companies could have drilling rights could be reconsidered under the Obama administration. Should he do jail time for making fraudulent bids and disrupting the auction?

That’s great – hadn’t heard of that. Typical of the Bush admin to sneak through last minute lame duck land grabs though.
Should he do jail time? Let the legal process go forward – I’m sure he’ll be pardoned if convicted!

He should be prosecuted for the fraud. That may not be an offense that carries jail time, especially if he has no previous record.

Arent you getting a little sick and tired of all these so called "eco-warriors" disrupting free enterprise and holding the rest of us economic hostages? If he is prosecuted you can be sure the ACLU will step in on his behalf.
