Should the US immediately begin major offshore oil and natural gas drilling and end all middle-east dependence?

And oppose the new Senate version of cap and trade the Kerry-Boxer bill
Gas prices will be 5 dollars a gallon if war with Iran!
Major reserve found in Gulf of Mexico to last well over US 50yrs.

Yes! It is the most moral option available and the best for our sovereignty and independence. Exxon just bought a company that found a way more efficient way to mine natural gas and hopefully the environmentalists and self haters won’t restrict it because it will make us wealthy if allowed to be extracted.

  2. Chip Says:

The Obama administration already has in Brazil.

I thought drilling for oil promotes global warming? (According to the libs).

Note: I guess the post below mine. (Lee). Has been locked away in some locker since the 70’s yea?

  3. Lee J Says:

Critics keep telling us that it will take 10 years to begin producing oil from offshore wells. Well, they’ve been singing that tune since at least the 1970s.

Do you really believe that the U.S can build a space agency and put a man on the moon in less than a decade, but not drill an oil well in that same period?

    Drill here! Drill now!

  4. warren v Says:

No, absolutely not, what would the liberals protest chant be if they could not claim every thing (war) was about oil and US dependence on foreign oil.

  5. Well Duh! Says:

We should have done this years ago. Now the liberals can fight with their tree huggers. How wonder how much money it will take for the tree huggers to look the other way. That seems to be the trend with this latest gang. Big payoffs to look the other way. Sadly it’s with MY money.

  6. Nikki Says:

    Yes.

  7. Bulldog Says:

ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!! Thin how many job’s this would create, not only on the rigs, but also in the supply industry.

For years the GOP and the conservative movement has ignored conservation, fuel standards and anything that would actually be useful. If this ‘major offshore oil and natural gas drilling’ nonsense isn’t a big business dream, nothing is.

This is the essential difference between the Palin/GOP and common sense. The thought of actually saving natural resources is long gone. Just remember it was Jimmy Carter who put solar panels on the White House and Reagan who removed them. That’s it in a nutshell.

  9. fangtaiyang Says:

No, it would disrupt the economies of too many nations and would not make any difference in costs at the pump.

The problem with using more domestic crude is that all crude oil is not created equal. The light sulfur crude from the middle east is by far the best for refining into fuel. The heavy crude in North America is more difficult and expensive to refine into gasoline and better suited for use as asphalt and plastics. Nevertheless, technology has made it much more feasible to use heavier crude for fuel, and more gasoline than most people realize is being refined from North American crude, particularly crude from Canada and Alaska.
    Here is a short list of companies that do not import middle eastern oil;
    Citgo
    Sunoco
    Conoco
    Sinclair
    BP/Phillips
    Hess

Imperialist war isn’t about gaining raw materials for the people at home. The ruling class doesn’t give a crap about the underclass. As we saw with the recent oil bubble (created by Goldman Sachs and the oil industry) and the California energy crisis (created by Enron, Goldman Sachs and the energy industry) the ruling class screws the crap out of us on a daily basis. Both of those crises were fake. Screwing the American people is partly where their massive fortunes come from (The other part is raping the rest of the world’s labor force — the majority of whom earn $10 per day or less). Imperialist war is about the ruling class gaining access to PROFIT from the natural resources buried under the soil of another people’s land.

  12. David Says:

No, we should find more sustainable energy sources.

  13. geepers Says:

as long as OBAMA THE KENYAN VILLAGE MUSLIM IDIOT is in the whitehouse, there is no chance we will take appropriate action on anything.

  14. mr danger Says:

    Hahahahaha
    You guys are amazing.
You scream at Obama for being a socialist and yet you know that nationalizing the oil companies is the only way to guarantee that the oil procured from American territorial waters would wind up the hands of just the American consumer.
If Obama doesn’t nationalize the oil companies first then who ultimately ends up with the oil depends on who is willing to pay the most for it. aka a free market economy

  15. BekindtoAnimals22 Says:

I’ve heard that new clean ways of drilling for oil have been developed. We also have a problem with refineries being closed. We do drill oil here but it is sold on the global market. It doesn’t stay here necessarily. Add to that, the biofuel subsidies have not been renewed by Congress and many of the 180 sites who make biofuels are shutting down because they can’t cover their costs without the subsidies. I find this administration to be completely ironic. So big on cap and trade, reducing our emissions, but letting the biofuels subsidies elapse. They say it will be retroactive but what about now? How smart is it to use food for fuel anyway? I see this as being a national security problem but globalization will result in total international interdependence. That is one of its goals. How odd.

  16. Sageandscholar Says:

There is no way drilling could end foreign dependence.
There is no current ban to off shore drilling. Only a moratorium on new leases that was renewed by Republican congresses every year from 1994 to 2006.
At best an increase in offshore drilling would result in returns in 20-30 years.

You want to end dependence on the middle east, work with the Dems on ending dependence on oil. There is no other choice

    No.
