I keep hearing in context of the middle east and in particular Libya, that crude oil prices are dropping for the barrel. I dont understand why gas prices are rising if that’s the case?

Ok, reading the news today it shows that crude oil prices have dropped dramaticly this year.As of today it is 86.63 dollars per barrel. The highest price per barrel this year was 113.93. Thats a pretty damn big difference. Now why isnt it showing at the pump at all?

Why is it when the price of crude oil goes up (gas prices go up),
"Experts" say it’s bad because people can’t afford gas?
Then, when crude oil prices drop (gas prices drop), "Experts" say it’s bad because investors loose money?
They both can’t be bad !!

A little while ago, crude oil prices were plummeting with the price of the euro. Now the euro and pound are rising but crude oil prices are falling. Can someone explain the seeming contradiction? Why are oil prices falling?
SDD, crude oil prices indeed fell over a course of a few days. They have recently risen [...]

Putin has decried the recent plummet of natural gas and crude oil prices and has attempted to reach out to natural gas exporting countries to develop a cartel system similar to OPEC.
Natural gas has been highly regarded as an abundant source of liquid fossil fuel to supplement petroleum use in Europe and the United [...]

If the member states of OPEC decided to abolish the institution would that be better for the world economy. If there were no OPEC the market forces would set up Crude Oil prices. Each oil exporting country would be competing for the market.
Am I right in saying that without the OPEC the world economy would [...]

Crude oil prices are the major determining factor in the price of a gallon of gasoline. I think the government is investigating the wrong question. Not manipulation of gasoline prices by oil companies, but rather manipulation of crude oil prices by the market. Large investment companies are manipulating crude oil prices.

Now that the shape of the current crisis is becoming clear, so do some explanations. We can trace the banking crisis to unsound lending practices. We can make sense of food price inflation through increased demand from developing countries and rising transport costs. But the mad see-sawing of crude oil prices up to 140 dollars [...]

Crude oil has slipped a bit lately, yet gas prices continue to soar across America. Will gas prices ever go down because of the decrease in price or future price of crude oil? Why do gas prices not go down when crude oil prices go down?

I have seen this several times already in media reports. They claim that limited refining capacity is partially to blame for increased (crude) oil prices. I can understand that refining capacity would affect prices at the pump, but how is it that it affects world crude oil prices? It would seem that [...]

If crude oil prices continue to fall and stay around a hundred per barrel, shouldn't airlines stop charging for check-in baggage? I could understand if you carry more than 2 check-in baggages but with just one check-in baggage… Wasn't that the main reason why airlines started charging for check-in luggage in the first place? [...]
