then market prices? right now a barrel of crude oil is about 89.00 on the market, could a oil co. sell oil that was drilled on U.S. soil too local refineries in the U.S. for say 65.00 a barrel, they would still make money, right?

I’ve looked at the consumption rates and production rates of crude oil within a five year period and in the year 2006, the consumption rates are higher than the production rates, why might this be? Would there be any enviromental/social/economical reasons to why? Please help me.

With new advances in science I’ve read scientists has been able to create a bacteria with DNA they encoded themselves. Would it be possible for them to encode a DNA which causes the bacteria to consume crude oil and clean up the gulf spill?
