And if price of oil goes up, would we say bullish or bearish ? With respect to the recovery ? Can anyone also tell me what are the differences of each type of crude oil ?

In May 2008, with gasoline prices well on their way to per gallon, American Solutions launched Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less, a citizen-led petition calling on Congress to “immediately lower gasoline prices” by authorizing the exploration of America’s vast energy resources.
The petition turned quickly turned into a 1.5 million member grassroots movement that [...]

Seems like whenever something happens, no matter what it is, they use as an excuse to raise the price of oil.
They have us over a barrel and are playing ‘hide the wienie’ with us.

I can’t see the logic behind the calls for more production in the US. Isn’t the price of oil just determined by global supply and demand?
@whiteflame55
So the US government would tell Exxon and BP and Texaco what price they have to sell their oil for in America? And that they may not export any?

For instance, when you hear that price of oil is 0 per barrel today, who is paying that price? Aren’t the oil companies the ones doing the drilling and refining it into gasoline and whatever else? Does it ever really leave their hands until it’s sold to independent gas stations or to consumers [...]

I get why the price of food goes up when the price of oil does. But I was wondering why the price of food stays up? If the price of oil drops, the price of food doesn’t.

Crude Oil has reached all-time highs, coming very close to 0 in recent days (although it has dropped to about ). Where do you see the price of oil being at in the next few months? But more importantly, where do you see it being at, in a year from now? And [...]

The price of oil is rising while the rest of the stock market, along with people’s retirement savings is tanking. Is the great Obama going to do something about this, or is this the way he wants it?

I believe we need to get off of oil not only because of the environment but also because of nation security. We are financing our enemies. I have no problem with increasing tax on gasoline but it must be done slowly in order to allow people time to adjust and it must apply [...]

Will the inflated price of oil be the genesis for new technologies that will free us from foreign oil? Will it cause more people to us mass transit, thereby cutting down on carbon emissions? or is it all just a crock and we are all pretty much screwed?

I kept hearing before Obama was elected president that he would not allow oil to get this high again, that he would keep Bush and all of his rich oil buddies from getting rich.
So why isn’t he doing it? Does Obama have rich oil buddies he is protecting? Why is this happening? Do all [...]

I just read where someone in the oil industry was trying to explain
the latest gas price increase. Why an increase in the price per
gallon of gas when in an article a couple of days ago they were
trying to slip in that the price of oil, per barrel had just dropped
below ?

Several month back, President Bush firmly committed to domestic drilling as a facet of America’s energy policy and as a means of breaking our dependence on foreign oil. The left, particularly Obama, said that this would have no affect on the price of oil or gasoline. And yet within weeks, the price of oil dropped [...]

It seems to me based on my basic economics 101 experience, that if the price of oil is pushed higher than what would normally be supported by worldwide supply and demand, then the artificially high price will cause demand to decline, supply to rise which would normally cause a surplus. Speculators would then need [...]

One of Obama’s arguments is that multinationals have paid an average tax rate of just 2% on their foreign revenues. While this may be true for companies that choose to have operations in countries with very low tax rates, the oil industry goes to resource-rich countries and operates under tax regimes that are often onerous. [...]
