What is a better choice, PhD in statistics or bachelors in petroleum engineering?

I’m currently taking courses towards a masters and eventually PhD in statistics. I have heard that high level statisticians are needed and make good money. I have also heard that petroleum engineers make a lot of money as well.

What is a better career choice in the long run? What will be better in the next 10 to 15 years?

Hands down any kind of engineer. Statisticians can make good money only in areas of forecasting like actuaries. A lot of testing and continual schooling and overtime etc. Engineers work hard but their jobs tend to be more secure and pay more from the start.
