What is the difference between petroleum technology or technician and petroleum engineering?

Okey,short story I want to become petroleum engineer but I cant afford to go this college in ohio because its really expensive.Friend of mine told me to go houston community college texas for petroleum engineering technology.But I want to know more about this field.Is it good idea to go for this majoring and what about jobs for technicians like how much they get hourly?

    Houston is the oil and gas capital for the US. I would expect the program at HCC to be a good one based on the listing of courses from the link below.

    I would suggest you contact the University of Houston and see which of the courses from HCC could be transferred to U of H if you choose to obtain a petroleum engineering degree. You might also determine if you could do this by taking night classes to obtain your degree.

    You might also contact HCC to see if they can tell you how many of their graduates get jobs in the industry. They may also know what the average starting pay if for their graduates.

    Too many freshmen are entering the study of petroleum engineering. The number of entering students is increasing much more rapidly than the demand for petroleum engineers. What’s good about your friend’s idea is that you would be out in the world of work much sooner, assuming the Houston Community College has a functioning job-placement office.
