What is the significance of the red color of the Gulf oil spill? I thought crude was black, like in black?

gold. I just searched on –> "red colored crude oil" with the quotes in and I got ZERO hits. Does it mean the oil is "young" or what?
Thanks Strato, that does sound nasty. Seems the poor Gulf is catching it from all directions.
