What kind of ecological damage does oil drilling on land actually do?
I read a news story about a US Judge blocking oil drilling in a Michigan forest http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080712/ap_on_re_us/gas_drilling
But I know lots of landowners who would love to have an oil well on their land if the money be in it… so why is oil drilling so hazadous to the environment>

To be honest, I hardly believe their is any "damage". I think its just those nature freaks that don’t want it to happen. If anything "bad" actually happens, all we did is mess up the landscape, which probably affects how the animals survive there. (loss of habitat, food supply, etc)

Ecological damage? A very small footprint. Spilling oil all over the land??? The oil companies don’t like to do that, they sell the stuff why spill it? The same goes with offshore drilling.
Drill here! Drill now! Pay less!
The price of oil goes down, our dependence on foreign oil goes down, everybody but OPEC loves the idea.

I think it is stupid. I agree that it leaves a lot of carbon footprints behind. It’s a danger to animals and what they eat. It should have a limit to what comes out of the ground and what stays in the ground. we should leave the oil in the sea alone. We should make sure that ships are trans supported safely across the water and Make sure that the only is not spilted into the sea. I think we should take public transport to work and schools instead of cars. All cars should be put on hold for a while to make the ozone layer stonger again. And i think it was very rude of andrew to say those nature freaks…. actually i’m not a nature freak i just think it’s wise that we help save are planet for the future and see what we can change by making it a healthier and more enjoy way to live. Extracting crude oil from the ground is bad.
