what would be the best type of vehicle to purchase, knowing the gas price may sky rocket again?

would you buy Hybrid electric vehicles? Ethanol? Diesel? or Natural gas or flex fuel? I guess flex fuel you can use both regular gas or ethanol (e85). for someone who enjoys driving and going in and out of town…50 miles a day driving or less…?

I believe that until the price of hybrids drop a bit more your best bet is a diesel VW. I’ve driven the newer tubo diesel models and there is little noise, no smell or black smoke and the diesel torque and turbo make them very strong in hilly terrain. Also, there mileage rivals many hybrids. In some European countries, diesel cars are outselling gas cars. The only downside is the current demand isn’t going to allow you to get much discount. Good Shopping!!

I’m assuming that you’re more interested in saving money than saving gas? It’s not always the same thing. E85 is great for saving gas, but not so much for saving money as, although it is cheaper to fill up, the car will use more to produce the same results. Hybrids are more expensive in the beginning and the maintenance costs are pretty high when they do have problems. Diesel might be the most economical, but only if you’re planning on putting 300k miles on it.

The overall cheapest way to go is still to buy the cheapest, lowest maintenance, highest MPG gasoline car. Corolla, Civic, Fit, Elantra, Yaris are all good examples.

If you can afford it, a hybrid would be the best way to go. Besides spending less on gas, it is better for the environment. One downfall for Hybrids, though, is that right now they are a little spendy.

If buying new, check out the Honda Civic, dang near 40 mpg, depending on your foot speed, and about THE most reliable car on the road.I would have suggested the new Xb Scion, but they lost mpg when they decided to bump the hp to 158.Still a cool looking ride, but for value and milage,CIVIC. Stay with gas for awhile, the hybrids will be better served futurewise.

I would consider leasing or purchasing hybrid vehicles. Since the cost of gasoline, is so much expensive these days and they make our environment cleaner.

Diesel. I drive a 11 year old Ford F350 Crew Cad Dually and get 22-24 mpg on the highway. The biggest advantages of a diesel are 1) more efficient than gas. 2) long service life- mine has 196,000 miles on it and is considered to be just "broken in"
    3) New diesels are very clean, especially in cars 4) due to it’s link to the commercial transportation industry diesel fuel prices do not go up and down as fast as gas prices and is currently 10-30 cents per gallon cheaper than gas where I live and 30- 40 cents/gal cheaper than E85. 5) You can find diesel almost anywhere. 6) Hybrids carry heavy EXPENSIVE battery packs that have to be replaced from time to time. Service life in practice of a Hybrid is unknown for now. Yes I like diesels, although my daily driver is a motorcycle.
