When will people wake up and realize that environmental nazis are enemies of civilization?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080712/ap_on_re_us/gas_drilling
This time, the environmental nazis managed to get a federal court to rule against drilling for oil and gas in northern Michigan on 3 acres of a tract of land measuring almost 6000 acres, in large part because it might hurt the Kirtland’s Warbler, a small bird which is apparently more important to environmental whackos than jobs for people in an impoverished area and oil and gas to help bring the price down for all of us.
Now I know how loggers in the Northwest must have felt about spotted owls. Call me crazy, but if my choice is between a spotted owl and a logger trying to feed his family, the bird finishes in a distant second place.
sabrina: How do you know how much oil is there? Are you a geologist? Are you even a Michigander? Further, the feds own the mineral rights, so the clause about the land being left undeveloped is not operative. That refers to building condos, etc…not drilling to exploit mineral rights which are legally the property of the government.
nickel: Who do you suppose brought the suit? I’ll give you a hint: it wasn’t pro-growth people.
BTW, you’re against oil. We get that. Let me take a wild stab here and assume you’re probably also against nuclear power, you don’t like hydro because it kills fish, and you don’t like wind farms because they hurt birds. Am I correct?

hopefully sometime before gas is 9.00 dollars a gallon.

Not me, I think Theodore Roosevelt (R) was a hero of America for his support of the environment. That logger and his family could move where a more appropriate job is located. That would be better than the extinction of a species for a seasonal job.

That land was given to be preserved, there is not much oil if
any . It is ridiculous that they would even drill there.

A CIVILIZATION CAN SURVIVE IN TIME ONLY IF IT IS SUSTAINABLE.
A civilization based on a depletable resource like oil is not sustainable.
There are now real options to make civilization sustainable
The people you are labelling "nazi" are environmental engineers, energy economists, etc…
I would rather say that it is the barbaric attitude to destroy and disregard what he doesn’t understand.

When the second bill of rights was published Theodor Roosevelt brother I believe was a closet socialist then Harry Truman.

The judge ruled the permission to drill was "capricious". What is truly is capricious is continuously preventing this nation from tapping into our gas and oil resources and reducing our dependence on foreign oil.

Instead of blaming just the environmentalists and the federal judge, why don’t you blame the Congress which created the Endangered Species Act which the environmentalists and the judge were *interpreting.*

Well I’m not much of bird lover, but I do enjoy fishing and drinking clean water. The article you cited states:
"The proposed wellhead would be located in the Huron-Manistee National Forest about three-tenths of a mile from the Mason Tract, a 4,679-acre wilderness area prized by anglers and other outdoor recreationists.
Forest supervisor Leanne Marten said when approving Savoy’s application that the project wouldn’t significantly harm the environment and the company would be required to keep noise to a minimum.
But the judge ruled the Forest Service didn’t consider how degrading the area could harm tourism, and said the agency did a "woefully inadequate" job of evaluating how the drilling might affect the Kirtland’s warbler, an endangered songbird that nests in the area."
"The plan was to clear about 3.5 acres of forest for a well site on federal land, then drill beneath the Mason Tract at an angle. If enough gas or oil was found, the company intended to install a pipeline and build a production facility about a mile east of the well."
Now not many people enjoy fishing, but I think everyone want less crude oil in there drinking water. Lastly, there isn’t a shortage of oil in the world – this the new GW Bush lie to help his oil buddies. His new lie is that there is shortage of oil, and thereby that explains the high price of oil on the world market. That isn’t the truth.
This administration has met secretly with the oil industry to assist them to make more money. If you think that drilling for oil will bring down the price of gas, then your fooling yourself. That is the same talk they said about the Alaskan oil pipeline. I have never seen prices go down substantially.
