Why do so many petroleum engineers die every year?

I heard alot of petroleum engineers die every year, that is the reason why they get paid alot. Most people seem to hate it and want to get out after a year of working there. Why is this?

They are generally dispatched in secret by the geologists that have to work with them…I confess I have wanted to eliminate many an engineer myself. They are very irritating…they are "play killers" and nobody likes a play killer!
