WHY DOES MCCAIN KEEP STATING OFFSHORE DRILLING WHEN?

AP: McCain Overstates Impact of Drilling. "McCAIN: ‘Oil drilling offshore now is vital so we can bridge the gap between imported oil … and it will reduce the price of a barrel of oil. … We’ve got to drill offshore and do it now.’ THE FACTS: The government estimates that opening the Atlantic and Pacific coasts and eastern Gulf of Mexico to drilling ‘will not have a significant impact on domestic crude oil and natural gas production or prices before 2030.’ Even then, it would only increase domestic oil production by 3 percent." Offshore drilling would supply between 2 and 4 million barrels per day. At a minimum, that would replace what we import from Venezuela and Nigeria each day.

Wouldn’t that be a good thing, to eliminate our imports of oil from two such problematic countries and reducing our dependency on OPEC nations by at least 10%?

That’s bullshit…we would have oil much sooner…you don’t know what you are talking about…

McCain is old and can’t adjust to new ideas. I would suspect that the oil companies give him a lot of campaign contributions, also.

    Thanks for making McCains case.

For the money oil companies paid to him. Give him enough money and he’ll be for anything! http://wonkroom.thinkprogress.org/2008/07/25/mccain-million-dollar-oil/

Just saying we want to drill for oil off our coasts has been bringing the price down. isn’t it at $87 a barrel now? Can’t imagine what the price would be when we actually start the drilling. Whether we get oil now or 10 years from now, our actions effect the world market. Better to drill than to do nothing and place blame on the other party.
