why will the Democrats not let us drill for oil in Alaska or off shore?
America is the 3rd largest oil producing country in the world. if we started drilling in more places we can be more self-sufficient on our oil and the gas prices will be less then they are.and we will be the 1st largest producers of oil.

Enviromental Nazis are in control of the democratic party they hold the purse strings. Alaskans want to drill in Anwar so why not.

Because taking money out of the piggy bank doesn’t get you anything in the end. You may have discovered a short term solution, but we’re talking about a long-term problem. It wouldn’t make our gas any cheaper, don’t worry.

To put it simply , it is against their religion.
They will not even debate it.
They will just "brand" you as a non- believer.

Because beginning with TR we have a tradition of balancing our natural resources with our commodity resources. Both have been considered equally important to our history.
Beyond that, we need an energy policy, which we don’t have right now. If we keep energy the way it is now it will cost the taxpayer billions. Oil is driving the war, the economy, and so much more.
Beyond that there is no enough oil, part of the problem right now is the bubble in the commodities market.

several things are wrong here.
america is also the top importer of oil, drilling in alaska won’t really do much as there isn’t that much oil up there, second we already do drill off shore in the gulf of mexico.
taking that oil from alaska how can you know that the oil companies will sell it America? why not else where? no republican ever answered that question.

China is drilling off the coast of Florida (by way of Cuba). Dems need to face the facts that while the US is trying to find alternate energy, we need to be self sufficient. If we don’t drill, someone else will.

Too bad you didn’t read the fine print..

We don’t have enough oil to drill in the first place.
It’s not Democrats who aren’t letting us drill for more oil. It’s also the Republicans too.
But you know, I don’t think that’s the real question. I think the obvious question is: "Why can’t we destroy our own environment for purely selfish needs anymore?"

Because they could give a $hit about hardworking Americans, but they love Polar Bears.
Maybe we’re looking in the wrong places, Gore seems to have a large supply of it in his hair.

[America is the 3rd largest oil producing country in the world.]
What? That’s false unless you count refinery gain. It’s more accurate to look at the list of exporters in this context. We don’t appear anywhere in the top 14. We are the largest oil importer and consumer.*
The benefits of recovering our dwindled reserves don’t outweigh the costs.
[...we can be more self-sufficient...]
"If the United States had to supply its entire demand of 21 million barrels per day (3.3×106 m3/d) without resorting to foreign imports, existing US reserves would last only three years at the current rate of consumption."1

I don’t know why anyone, given the state of the world, would not try to find ways to American Energy Independence. While drilling for more oil would not necessarily bring prices down, it WOULD keep the money here in the USA as opposed to relying on an energy source produced mainly by those who would do us harm.
While oil drilling is not the only answer, it IS the only viable option to get us through a transition from fossil based fuels to renewable sources of energy.
I am looking for the leader who has the guts to dare rally this country around a slogan "Let OPEC eat sand!"

If you want to help put a stop to this nonsense you can sign a petition from the American people to the congress. Newt Gingrich is involved with this and the info was aired on Hannity and Colmes. The site is americansolutions.com. There’s about half a million signatures already. There’s a lot of helpful info on there too, to help you get the facts to debate morons who think we shouldn’t drill for our own oil.
April 24th, 2010 at 5:44 pm
We don’t need it. We are all brainwashed into thinking that we "must have oil to survive". We don’t. There are plenty of viable, clean, efficient and cheap methods of replacing oil. The Oil companies just hold the puppet strings of the people in charge of this country, which is why gas is now soaring over $5.00 a gallon.
April 24th, 2010 at 5:44 pm
For the time and money it would take to get a single drop of oil out of ANWR, we could develop new energy sources that would make an actual difference toward energy independence. If you’re using too much oil, the solution isn’t to go get more oil.
