Would it be a smart decision to become a petroleum landman in this economy?

I’m about to go to college and have been looking at careers and ran into petroleum landman…I hear they make good money but I don’t know if it would be safe if I became one in a bad economy like this with gas prices so high….also, is it possible for them to make 7 figures in one year because my goal has always been to become a self-made multi-millionaire?

No a landman isn’t going to make a 7-figure salary. You could make a good living but it’s not the road to riches. I once knew a landman who made about 70 – 80k a year. It’s an unusual job that few people know exists. You might consider pursuing that as a fallback position while you prepare for something else in college (or vice versa). I have no idea about it’s potential right now versus other times. I suspect there must be work for landmen in places where there are new oil sources being developed and where nat gas is being developed.
